JOMC: Mental Health & Kindness Talk at Better Sister and Brother Growth Network

A camp day centered on heart and hope

On July 10, Charlestine Joyner Hudson joined the Better Sister and Brother Growth Network summer camp to lead an interactive conversation on mental health awareness. With warmth and energy, she helped students practice naming feelings, pausing before reacting, and choosing language that builds others up.

Two simple mantras anchored the session:

• “Stop, Think, Then Speak.”
• “We Listen and We Don’t Judge.”

Through quick role-plays and call-and-response, campers explored what these ideas look like with friends, siblings, and classmates—especially in those everyday moments when emotions run high.

Living our mission with young leaders

At Joy of Memorable Creations (JOMC), we exist to encourage, empower, and educate—reaching out to make a difference one life at a time. Teaching young people how to identify feelings and respond with empathy is core to that mission. When students can say what they feel and know they’ll be heard without judgment, classrooms and camps become safer, kinder spaces for everyone.

What the campers took away

• Name it, then choose it: “I feel ___, and here’s what I can do next.”
• Kind words count: pausing to speak with care changes outcomes.
• Listening is leadership: making space for others’ feelings builds trust.
• Help is available: it’s strong—not weak—to ask a trusted adult for support.

The room buzzed with smiles and gratitude—and yes, a little extra excitement when our entrepreneurs brought prizes for the kids!
